**About the Author**
Tomi Ungerer (1931-2019) is a legendary figure in children's books. Born in Strasbourg in 1931, he arrived in New York in 1956 with just $60 and a suitcase of drawings, quickly rising to fame as a caricaturist, illustrator, and author. Over his prolific career, he created more than 140 books for children and adults. Honored with the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award—the top international prize for children's literature—he was named Ambassador for Childhood and Education by the Council of Europe in 2003. The Musée Tomi Ungerer, dedicated solely to his work, opened in Strasbourg, France, in 2007, cementing his enduring legacy. Tomi passed away in 2019.
